The Popular Party group has reproached the president of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo, that in three years "she has not been able to carry out the territorial planning of the island" and now "buries" the revision of that document, prepared in its day by José María Ezquiaga, announcing that it has already become obsolete. “It is regrettable and a shame for the citizens of this island that the first time the president is heard speaking in plenary about the PIOL is, precisely, to present a forty-page report saying that it should be thrown away”, she states.
In addition, the popular representatives have described as "regrettable" the "spectacle that the president has offered today in the plenary session, who has been unable to put aside her obsessions and the political wars that exist between the PSOE and CC and assume the direct responsibility she has in the fact that the revision of the PIOL has not gone ahead in the three years she has been at the head of the Cabildo".
The PP also emphasizes that Corujo is also directly responsible for the Territorial Policy Area and, therefore, "directly responsible for the failure to be able to meet one of the priority objectives set by this mandate".
Thus, the former vice president of the Cabildo and PP councilor, Jacobo Medina, criticizes the “manifest incompetence of Corujo with respect to the approval of the PIOL, as the lack of will she has had in this matter as the highest public official of the Cabildo of Lanzarote is evident”.
For Medina, the problem lies precisely in the fact that in terms of territory, Corujo "has acted as general secretary of the socialists, politicizing the processing of the document and complying, unfortunately, with what is now admitted: that her intention from the first moment has been to bury the revision of the PIOL”.
The PP councilor considers that “it is a sad day for the socio-economic development of the island" and denounces that Corujo "has needed three years to realize that the document is no longer even viable”.
"It is shameful that the PSOE hides behind the pandemic"
“It is shameful that the PSOE hides behind the pandemic to try to get rid of any responsibility when it has had enough time to adapt the document to the Land Law as the Arrecife government did in just one month”, said the PP councilor.
Although the popular representatives have tried during the plenary session to get the president to report on what the government's intentions are from this moment on, they state that Dolores Corujo "has not wanted to give any explanation in this regard, leaving Medina's questions in the air about who will be responsible for the new document, whether the contract with Ezquiaga has been terminated or whether its drafting will be entrusted to Gesplan or to whom”.
"We are in favor of having an ordinance for Lanzarote, but the fact that it has taken three years to realize this is unforgivable and a public irresponsibility in every way”, considers Medina, who adds that it is a "bad management that also has to do with the practice of delegating powers of the Cabildo to the Government of the Canary Islands and that has added a new matter today".
"To the issue of water, the Cotmac and the territory, is now also added the environmental assessment that will be carried out by the regional executive due to the inability of the progressive government of the Cabildo, Psoe and Podemos, to form its own island body", she concludes.
