Five months after the integration of the Hospital Insular de Lanzarote into the Canarian Health Service, Intersindical Canaria has announced a strike at the hospital to denounce the "dismantling of the hiring lists." This strike also extends to the University Hospital of the Canary Islands and, according to the prior notice that has already been registered with the General Directorate of Labor, will take place on June 5, 12, 19 and 26. During these days, according to the union, the staff will carry out two-hour stoppages, a time slot that indicates that "it will be increased as a measure of pressure until reaching a favorable agreement for the workers."
Abel Ramos, member of the National Health Secretariat and of the Company Committee of the HUC, Ariel Bonilla and Isabel Fernández, members of the Company Committee of the Hospital Insular de Lanzarote, and Catalina Darias, spokesperson for the National Health Secretariat and member of the Company Committee of the HUC offered a press conference this Wednesday. In it, Darias denounced that "the application of the new draft order of contracting prepared by the Ministry endangers the jobs of about 4,000 workers of all professional categories."
According to what they have explained from the press office of Intersindical Canarial, the workers of these centers "are governed by the contracting system of the old lists" and could lose their jobs with the updating of the SCS lists. "The project leaves out workers from other centers who, previously, were not part of the Canarian Health Service, and who were incorporated into this legal framework as of 2009," said the spokesperson for the National Health Secretariat at the press conference.
"They are workers who have been concatenating contracts for years and who have rights. That is why we ask that the current lists be respected until this process is launched, since everything indicates that this will be from next year," said Catalina Darias, who also pointed out that "these are lists that will be exhausted by natural means, since people are retiring" and that, from there, they can "place the new lists from that draft order of contracting lists."
The spokesperson for the National Health Secretariat and member of the Company Committee of the HUC also harshly criticized the attitude of the rest of the union forces present at the sectoral health table held on January 13. "Satse, CCOO and UGT were in favor of this project without waiting for the legal opinion on the proposal that Intersindical Canaria to preserve the current lists," he said in this regard.
Concentration and declaration of person "non grata"
As a prior action to the call for a strike, the workers will carry out a first concentration this Thursday, at 2:00 p.m., in front of the doors of the University Hospital of the Canary Islands, in Tenerife
To this measure, it will also be added, and by unanimous agreement, to declare José Manuel Baltar, Minister of Health, Conrado Domínguez, Director of the Canarian Health Service, and Fernando Clavijo, current President of the Government of the Canary Islands, as persona non grata in this center. Likewise, the union points out that it reserves "the option of initiating the actions and mobilizations that it deems appropriate."
