The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands will locate the Lanzarote Public Health Laboratory in the old Mala Health Center, for which the Canary Health Service is preparing a Functional Plan that includes the conditioning of the building's spaces for its new use. Until now, the Public Health Laboratory of the Government of the Canary Islands was located in a location of the Island Council of Lanzarote.
The Health Area Directorate of Lanzarote requested a feasibility study for the transfer of the Island Public Health Laboratory to the Mala Health Center given that the building it occupies has available surface area and it is not expected that the needs for healthcare space will increase in the medium term.
In a first analysis, the location of the Island Public Health Laboratory in the available spaces is viable, although it is necessary to undertake refurbishment works of considerable importance, so it is essential to draw up the Functional Plan where the needs of spaces and their different dependencies and facilities are described and the corresponding budget is allocated.
The Mala Health Center, although it was built 15 years ago to cover healthcare in the northern area of Lanzarote, is maintained in good condition, occupies an area of 950 square meters and consists of 10 medical offices. Currently only one office is in operation, attended by a nurse, a doctor and a midwife.
