The Haría City Council has sealed off this Saturday the works that were being carried out in the Pardelas Park enclosure, in Órzola, where unaccompanied minors were going to be welcomed. These adaptation works would be carried out by the Ministry of Social Welfare of the Government of the Canary Islands.
Chaxiraxi Niz has shown in Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero her "disagreement and opposition" to the installation of this center in the town. Among the reasons she argues for rejecting it is because "the land of this installation is for agricultural and economic protection." She also opposes because she says that they do not have enough Local Police "to provide citizen security in its fair demand, due to the installation of a minor center in the municipality."
On the other hand, the mayor indicates that another reason that generates her rejection is the decision to "isolate" unaccompanied minors in a town like Órzola, where they do not have direct access "to education or health," which would lead to using "more public resources to transfer them to those places."
In addition, she adds that since Thursday she has received "numerous calls" from residents of the area, expressing their concern about the news of the installation of the shelter for unaccompanied minors in Pardelas Park.
Finally, the mayor criticizes the "disloyalty" of the Government of the Canary Islands for not informing the Haría City Council of the installation of this center for unaccompanied minors. "They have sought a quick solution without informing the City Council," denounces Chaxiraxi Niz.
