Guacimeta registers an increase in national travelers, although international travelers decrease

The upward trend in the arrival of national visitors to Lanzarote continues, as Aena states that last May, 157,260 passengers arrived on the island from some point in the national territory, which is 5.8% more than in the previous year. Regarding the number of flights, Guacimeta registered more than 2,000 national flights, out of the 3,648 that have arrived on the island until last May. This figure confirms this upward trend, as it represents 11.3% more than the previous year.

As for the aircraft from abroad that landed in Lanzarote until May, they have experienced a decrease, since of the 3,648 flights, 1,364 belong to this type, which is 2% less than in the same period of the previous year. The arrival of international passengers has also decreased compared to 2005, since on this occasion, 227,288 travelers have visited Lanzarote, 0.7% less than in the previous year.

Aena also reveals that in the transport of merchandise there has been another decrease, specifically 10.7% less than 2005. National cargo decreased by 9.9%, although where this decrease has been most noticeable is in international cargo, which registered a decrease of 21.5%.

Canarian Airports

The arrival of passengers to the eight Canarian airports has meant an increase of 6.6% compared to 2005. Although Gran Canaria was the one that concentrated the highest number of travelers, which has made it rank in the third position among the national airports with the highest growth in the month of May.

Gran Canaria is followed by Tenerife South, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. The latter has grown by 19.8%, compared to its figure registered in the same period of the previous year, which means that it has positioned itself in the first place in passenger growth among the national airports in its category.
