The Teguise City Council approved last Friday in the Local Government Board the granting of licenses for the execution of two public works, on the one hand the integral reform of the Teguise children's park and on the other hand, the expansion of the municipal cemetery of Santa Margarita, in Guatiza.

These are two actions that respond to historical demands of the citizens, and that, according to the City Council, "reflect the firm will of the Teguise government group to address with facts the real needs of the municipality's nuclei".

“Today we take another step in the roadmap that we set for ourselves from the beginning of the mandate, improve services, dignify public spaces and guarantee adequate infrastructure for all the residents of Teguise”, said the mayor Olivia Duque, who stressed that both projects “meet citizen demands, and respond to a planned and committed management with collective well-being”.

Renovation of the Teguise children's park

The renovation of the children's park is part of the actions to improve public spaces aimed at children and families, with the aim of having safe, accessible and modern environments. This action has a budget of 530,000 euros. This action is part of the cooperation plans of the Cabildo de Lanzarote.

“The new children's park will incorporate adapted elements, shade areas and safe pavements. It is a priority for the corporation to create quality spaces that promote coexistence and healthy play”, explained the Councilor for Works, Eugenio Robayna.

Expansion of the Guatiza cemetery

The second approved action consists of the expansion of the Santa Margarita cemetery, in Guatiza, with a planned budget of 40,000 euros. The project includes the construction of 30 new niches and 12 columbariums for the conservation of ashes, thus responding to the need to guarantee a dignified funeral service with sufficient capacity in the town.

The work, which is currently in the Contracting department for bidding, is part of the comprehensive plan to improve municipal funeral infrastructures and is expected to begin in the coming months.

“We know that this has been a matter of concern for many families in Guatiza. This expansion is a sign of the City Council's commitment to a sensitive and close management of the realities of the municipality”, added Robayna.
