Gabriela, the woman who camped for several days in front of the Arrecife City Hall requesting a rent that was affordable for her, has occupied this Wednesday with her mother and daughter a house in the municipality of Tías, according to the councilor of Podemos, Leticia Padilla, to La Voz. She, who was supporting the woman during her claim, has pointed out that Gabriela has already left the apartment she had rented in Argana and for which she had an eviction order.
"She went there because she didn't want to get into any house that could bother the owner or a bank," Padilla said, who also said that "these houses, where no one has ever lived, are in a complicated judicial situation, half-built." In addition, the councilor explained that Gabriela "is now in this house without furniture, without electricity and without water."
Regarding the woman's personal situation, Padilla pointed out that "Gabriela is very exhausted, she is very afraid," adding that "the situation is very complicated." "She didn't want to talk to the press, because she told me that she was very tired of all this, because she has been given a lot of stick and she only wants to get a house," added the councilor of Podemos.
Leticia Padilla explained last week to La Voz that the woman had been "9 months looking for a rent" that she could pay with the income she has, but she had not found any. She also pointed out that "the most comfortable thing for the Arrecife City Council would have been for Gabriela to get into a squat house as many are doing, with fear, in silence" and "choose to live outside of society, choose to live illegally." However, faced with the eviction order, Gabriela finally made the decision to occupy a house in Tías.
