"We have two lists because we have different opinions," said the socialist councilor in Tías, Francisca Toledo, on the morning of this Wednesday, January 21, in relation to the two candidacies from which the board of directors of the local group of the Socialist Party in the municipality will be chosen. The current secretary of organization of the PSOE in Tías and councilor in the City Council, Alfonso Gopar, is running leading one of the lists and the already retired Florencio Suárez, mayor of the municipality until 1995, will do the same for the other group, which also includes councilor Francisca Toledo.
"Unfortunately, we have not reached an agreement," Toledo considered in order to present a common and consensual list, although she stated that she had not lost hope of achieving it. "I hope that during today these approaches will continue and we will come up with a consensual list that would be the best for everyone." Since, according to her, this division had a "catastrophic" result for both groups in the past, "because we were left without representation at the island level in the party's Congress," said Toledo.
If not, a second candidacy has been presented headed by a historical figure of the party, Florencio Suárez. "We have turned to a person who has his machos well placed," Francisca defined, the character of the candidate she supports to "restore the spirit of unity of the party." "In Tías he is a reference for his way of being, his prudence and his closeness," she declared while presenting him as the solution to the problems of the local group. "Lately we have lost our manners and I believe that with Florencio we can restore the enthusiasm of the militants and the confidence in the party with the objective of 2011 in which we want to recover the majority we lost."
Bad manners of the past
In relation to what happened in the Local Committee of Tías during the election of delegates for the Island Congress of the Socialist Party, Francisca Toledo has assured that she felt "very bad about the bad manners in which the events unfolded since we are all colleagues and we are not fighting against another party." And it is that according to her "there was a closed candidacy" so, the officialist supporters headed by Francisca Toledo chose to present another candidacy "to go as delegates to the Island Congress to vote for our future general secretary whoever it was," she concluded.
