Environment publishes the Cotmac agreement approving the conservation regulations for the La Corona Natural Monument

The Ministry of Environment and Territorial Planning of the Government of the Canary Islands, headed by Domingo Berriel, has published this Monday in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands the agreement of the Commission for Territorial Planning and Environment of the Canary Islands that definitively approves the Conservation Standards of the Natural Monument of La Corona, in the municipality of Haría, in Lanzarote.

This natural monument occupies an area of 1797.2 hectares of the municipality of Haría, which represents 2.1 percent of the island's surface and 5.2 percent of the protected island surface. Within this place is the Site of Scientific Interest of Los Jameos.

The La Corona volcano, with its 600 meters of height and the badlands that extends from its base to the coast, form a geomorphological unit of great interest and scenic beauty. In this area, two representative natural habitats converge: the sparse tabaibal and the underground, both with high endemic biodiversity.

These rules are intended to protect and conserve the integrity of flora and fauna and ensure the maintenance of essential ecological processes. Achieve the orderly use of natural and cultural resources for scientific, educational and recreational purposes, in a way that is compatible with the preservation of its values, among other purposes.
