The Ministry of Environment and Territorial Planning of the Government of the Canary Islands has published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC) the resolution of the Vice-Ministry of Environment of the Autonomous Executive, by which the Integrated Environmental Authorization (AAI) is granted to a project for a biodiesel plant in the municipality of Arrecife, in Lanzarote, promoted by the entity Biodiesel Lanzarote.
This authorization, which is granted for a period of eight years, is subject to technical limits and conditions, and integrates into a single act of administrative intervention all existing environmental authorizations regarding the production and management of waste, discharges from land to the sea, as well as environmental determinations regarding atmospheric pollution.
The Ministry states in a statement that the plot selected for the location of the facility is classified as developable land for industrial use, so the activity will not cause any change in land uses, and the biodiesel plant will be located in an attached building of 440 square meters, which has a mezzanine of 63 square meters and a ground floor of 377.
The AAI is an authorization that must be held by companies that carry out polluting industrial activities and that brings together and replaces all existing environmental authorizations until the implementation of this environmental control tool.
This authorization is the main instrument included in the Law on prevention and integrated control of pollution. The objective of this regulation is to reduce pollution of the atmosphere, water and soil, with the purpose of achieving a high level of protection of the environment as a whole.
