The councilor of Infractions, Youth and Citizen Participation of the Arrecife City Council, Eli Merino, has announced that she is disassociating herself from Somos, a political organization with which she accessed the municipal corporation, "as this party has no activity and will not participate in the next local elections on May 28th."
The councilor, who is part of the government pact formed by the PP, CC, NC and Somos as the only public office of this party on the entire island, confirms that this political organization does not maintain any type of political activity nor will it present itself in the next elections.
Faced with this situation of "organic inactivity", she has decided to publicly express her total disassociation from it because it is her will to "continue in active politics and aspire to defend the projects initiated in Arrecife in this mandate and that have not yet been executed".
"Loyalty" to the project until the end of the mandate
Merino has expressed in a statement sent to the media her "deep gratitude" to the political formation from which she is now leaving for giving her the opportunity to participate in politics, and her "sadness" for the disappearance of a project that "was full of vocation for service, ideas of an enormous social character and a fairly important youthful drive" that if it had been maintained she would continue to support "with all my strength and dedication".
"I will maintain until the end of the mandate my loyalty to the project with which I ran in the past elections" although she announces, at the same time, her interest in continuing in politics.
"Despite not having had the collaboration of my party, which suffered an irreversible crisis after the last electoral appointment, I do have to recognize that I have found in the colleagues of the government group a total complicity to be able to develop my activity, as demonstrated by the numerous projects that we have been able to develop from the councilorships that I hold", declares Merino emotionally.
The councilor also thanks the residents of Arrecife "for their support and permanent participation" to adapt these actions in the town.
The politician points out that "it has been an experience not without hardship and sacrifice but also exciting and socially beneficial and, therefore, I want to continue, despite the disappearance of Somos forcing me to look for new colleagues".
"I will continue to be the same person and defend the same ideas, but I want to act with absolute transparency with the residents of Arrecife and especially with all the people who have made it possible for me to get here, to whom I will be eternally grateful", concludes Merino.
