The national press has once again set its sights on the judicial scandals opened in Lanzarote. This time it was the newspaper El País that dedicated a special three-page report in its Sunday edition, under the title "Business under the volcano".
The trigger for the article, also published on the cover of its digital edition, is the patrimonial investigation of Pedro de Armas, revealed almost three weeks ago by La Voz de Lanzarote, and then reviews other cases opened on the island, such as the Union, Montecarlo, Yate and Stratvs cases.
Regarding De Armas, the report recalls his humble origins and recounts how he later made a fortune with urban planning operations, while holding public positions linked to urban planning. In addition, it emphasizes that although he has not been charged until now, his name had already been mentioned in several criminal cases in recent years.
The report also cites other names, giving special relevance to businessmen such as Luis Lleó and Juan Francisco Rosa, of whom he even publishes a photo in one of his appearances in the Arrecife Courts. And of course, he makes special mention of Dimas Martín and also Felipe Fernández Camero, to whom he refers as "the lawyer of all", in reference to his dual role as lawyer for promoters who obtained illegal licenses and, in turn, lawyer for the municipalities involved in granting those permits.
"Life on the Canary Island revolves around the courts, with dozens of open summaries for corruption and 22 illegal tourist complexes," El País points out on the cover of its Sunday supplement, dedicated entirely to "Lanzarote: the paradise of the 200 accused".
