The Ministry of Education, Universities, Culture and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands will build a new educational center on the site of the current La Destila Infant and Primary School (CEIP) in Arrecife, as announced by the Deputy Minister of Education and Universities, Gonzalo Marrero, to the main municipal authorities, during his recent visit to the island of Lanzarote.
Marrero informed the Arrecife City Council that the new CEIP La Destila is a priority in the educational planning of the Ministry and that the project will aim to offer the maximum guarantees of construction and educational quality for the students since, due to the deterioration of the facilities after 50 years of use, it is not viable to undertake renovation work.
The CEIP La Destila site consists of about 4,000 square meters, which would facilitate joint actions between both administrations and build a new three-story center in which various activities could be reconciled. Likewise, the possibility of building an underground parking lot to optimize resources is contemplated.
The City Council showed its agreement to execute said project, since Arrecife does not have new sites in the municipality for educational purposes and the growth of schooling in recent courses makes it necessary to expand the number of places in this Lanzarote municipality. It is expected to increase the current 480 that the center has, distributed in 18 units, eight of them for infant education and another 12 for primary education, to about 620 that a line three center contemplates.
To this end, the regional administration will establish a protocol of action, after the plenary agreement by the City Council and in accordance with the City Council, where it will try to integrate the houses for teachers located in the educational complex, where there is only one teacher at present and to whom another alternative will be given.
Another of the actions to be undertaken by the Ministry will be to request permission from the City Council to proceed with the eviction and demolition of the current homes, after the corresponding legal procedures established by Law. In the same way, the administrative procedures will be initiated for the elaboration of the project of the center, budgetary allocation and public tender for its construction.
