Education Inspectors will weekly supervise the evolution of the educative process in La Graciosa

The Minister of Education, Universities, Culture and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, Milagros Luis Brito, visited La Graciosa this Monday to participate in the first day of class with the students of the new CEO Ignacio Aldecoa, together with the educational community of the island. The Ignacio Aldecoa, former Center for Early Childhood and Primary Education, has expanded the educational offer for the residents of La Graciosa for the current academic year, who will be able to study at said center up to the 3rd year of ESO.

Milagros Luis was accompanied by the general director of Centers and Educational Infrastructure, José Regalado Álvarez; the island director of Education, Juan Cruz, and the territorial director of Las Palmas, Julio Gutiérrez González. The CEO Ignacio Aldecoa of La Graciosa will have a total of 67 students for the 2008/09 academic year. 45 are enrolled in Early Childhood and Primary Education, while in 1st, 2nd and 3rd year of ESO there will be 22 students.

"The Ministry of Education thus fulfills the commitment made in its day by the President of the Government, Paulino Rivero, to offer an integrated and complete education to the inhabitants of La Graciosa, responding in turn to the demand of the educational community of the island," they say from the Executive.

This demand was reflected in the Decree approved by the Government of the Canary Islands four months ago, which modified the name of the CEIP to CEO Ignacio Aldecoa, expanding its academic offer. Likewise, the existing teaching staff has been increased, which consists of 4 teachers in Early Childhood and Primary Education, plus another 6 in Secondary Education, and the management team consisting of a director, a head of studies and a secretary.

The objective set by Minister Milagros Luis for the 2008/09 academic year has been to improve the educational offer for the students of La Graciosa and to initiate a weekly supervision work from September, by the Education inspectors, to study the evolution of the educational process and obtain the maximum academic performance from the students of the island.

Haría School Residence

According to what they have highlighted from the Ministry, "important improvements are also being incorporated in the Haría School Residence, having carried out conditioning works this summer such as the adaptation of the Primary study room and the renovation of the furniture".

In addition, in this academic year an action will be coordinated in the IES Haría that will allow the transfer of students on Mondays and Thursdays to La Graciosa, thus facilitating better integration and reconciliation with the family life of the 4th year ESO, Baccalaureate and Training Cycle students.

Finally, the Minister visited the nucleus of Pedro Barba in order to see a property that the educational community has requested to be rehabilitated for use as a nature classroom.
