The General Secretary of the PSOE in Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, assures that the island "continues to advance along the path of improving economic activity and employment by registering a new decrease in unemployment in May." Lanzarote has registered 1,382 fewer unemployed people in May than in the same month last year, as well as a decrease of 2.2% compared to April of this year.
Currently, the number of unemployed people totals 8,473. The General Secretary of the PSOE has once again attributed "the political stability achieved and the spirit of dialogue that has reigned between public institutions, business organizations and unions, the fact that activity has been promoted
economic, thus allowing the creation of employment."
Unemployment is almost 2,200 people less than in 2019
However, the General Secretary of the PSOE believes that none of this would be possible "without the labor reform and the protection measures approved by the Government of Pedro Sánchez, such as the increase in the minimum interprofessional wage." On the other hand, when Loli Corujo took office as president of the Cabildo, in June 2019, Lanzarote registered 10,672 unemployed people. Unemployment is now almost 2,200 people less.
Similarly, when Corujo took office, Lanzarote had about 50,000 people affiliated with Social Security. The number of affiliated people now exceeds 62,000, about 12,000 more affiliated people.
The General Secretary of the PSOE of Lanzarote is hopeful that Lanzarote "will continue to progress in this direction, with greater social justice, with economic dynamism, with more job creation, with more stable and permanent jobs, with new affiliation records in Social Security thanks to labor legislation that protects workers."
