David Duarte has submitted his resignation as councilor of the Arrecife City Council. A resignation that occurred hours after the PSOE opened a disciplinary file against him and temporarily suspended his membership due to his "constant obstruction of the government work of the mayor and the Socialist Group of the Arrecife City Council."
Specifically, in its resolution, the Federal PSOE referred to various statements" made by David Duarte in the media, in which he "pointed to the mayor as responsible for certain difficulties in management and publicly expressed his disagreement with several of her decisions, acknowledging that he had received offers from various parties to join their ranks for the upcoming elections."
The PSOE considers that the content of these statements is "disloyal, irresponsible, and injurious, with opinions, ideas, or comments opposed to the political line of the PSOE" and that Duarte's conduct may constitute "serious and very serious offenses" according to its statutes.
However, although party sources told La Voz that the opening of a file against Duarte would entail the dissolution of the Local Committee of Arrecife, of which he is secretary, and the appointment of a management team to lead it, they stated that he could continue as a councilor of the government group. However, on the same night of this Tuesday, hours after the decision of the Federal PSOE was known, Duarte registered his resignation through electronic means.
Currently, Duarte was only in charge of the Local Police Department, since the mayor of Arrecife, after winning the primaries, removed him from the areas of Festivities, Tourism, and Roads and Works last February. In fact, last week, Duarte requested that his release as councilor be withdrawn so that he could return to his job at the Cabildo, where he was on leave.
