The Lanzarote parliamentarian of the Nationalist Group, Cristina Calero, asked in parliamentary session the Minister of Social Welfare, Equality, Youth, Childhood and Families of the Government of the Canary Islands, Candelaria Delgado, about the actions planned to address the socio-sanitary infrastructure needs in Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
Calero highlighted the "vital importance of socio-sanitary infrastructures" for the development of services in both islands, stressing that the "inability of the previous government to specify projects such as the high-demand center for the Elderly of Tahíche had left Lanzarote behind in this aspect.
“Lanzarote was the only island of the past term that was unable to create new socio-sanitary places. Not only were they not created, but those that were planned were destroyed. The current government of the Cabildo of Lanzarote has done the task, but we are four years behind and in Lanzarote and La Graciosa we cannot waste another second, because people's lives depend on it”, Calero declared.
For her part, Candelaria Delgado detailed the challenges faced in the execution of the II Infrastructure Plan of the Canary Islands in Lanzarote and La Graciosa. The problems in the tenders and the subsequent return of funds by the Island Council demonstrated the obstacles encountered in the materialization of these projects.
However, the counselor reported on the "current efforts of the Government of the Canary Islands" to take advantage of the European Next Generation funds destined to socio-sanitary infrastructures, ensuring that "more than nine million euros have been allocated to Lanzarote, with the aim of modernizing and improving the socio-sanitary care services" on the island.
In addition, the "commitment" of the Government of the Canary Islands to work in collaboration with the Island Councils and "speed up the implementation of measures" was highlighted, such as the technological transformation of social services and the promotion of innovation in this area.
Calero insisted that before developing the III Plan, the Tahiche residence must be finished as soon as possible and that it must be in line with the needs of each island. “The creation of day places, qualitative improvement of services or the situation of people who work providing care depends on the infrastructure plan”, said the nationalist parliamentarian.
