Last Friday, the Cabildo of Lanzarote approved in plenary session the Regulation of Organization and Operation of the Island Commission for Cultural Heritage, an action that will allow for "a safer and more effective protection of the island's cultural heritage." Furthermore, the Corporation notified that all allegations presented regarding this regulation have already been resolved.

The councilor responsible for the Heritage area, Ariagona González, highlights that the final approval of this regulation allows for intensifying inspection and control work and "contributes to a better protection of the historical and cultural heritage of Lanzarote, enhancing the value of the island's roots and past."

In this sense, González explained that the new regulatory text adapts to the new Cultural Heritage Law of the Canary Islands, "which constitutes an updated legislative framework suitable for the new times, regulating the activities of protection, research, and dissemination of our rich and varied cultural heritage and intensifying inspection and control work."

"We would have liked to have been able to approve it much earlier, but the health crisis has extended the deadlines for the creation and approval of the new regulation, although we have already done so and we are very happy with the progress this represents for Lanzarote and its population," concluded the councilor.

For her part, President María Dolores Corujo congratulated the "commendable" work that the Heritage area team is carrying out "in an increasingly agile, professional, and modern manner" and the efforts they have made to expedite the approval process of this regulation, despite the special circumstances dictated by the Covid-19 pandemic.
