The mayor of San Bartolomé, María Dolores Corujo, assured this Tuesday that she is "convinced" that the public lighting of Güime will begin to function "in the month of December and at the latest in January". "Normalcy will arrive at the end of this year or at the beginning of next year," she indicated.
Corujo assures that the deficiencies in the lighting of Güime are about to be resolved, after executing the guarantees of the companies that did the work.
The mayor explained that this is the "first time" that a public administration "executes guarantees of the companies that did the work." "We made an important investment in a model public lighting from the point of view of energy saving," she indicated. The problem is that "there were deficiencies" that were not corrected by the awarded company and that the City Council has had to execute.
The first mayor indicated that she "understands the anger and discomfort" of the residents of Güime, but explained that having executed the guarantees to the awarded companies, "things have to be done well and not impulsively." "This required legal procedures where the companies had the guarantee of being able to appeal our decision. That is what we have done, endure the pull, understand the concern, but I am not willing to pay millionaire compensations for not having done the administrative process well," María Dolores Corujo has defended.
According to the mayor, the deficiencies in the first phase of the public lighting of Güime "are already resolved" and, in addition, "60 new equipment have been collected." Therefore, she believes that in a short time, the residents will be able to enjoy public light.
Precisely, at the end of November, a resident reported that he had suffered two attempted robberies in Güime and blamed it on the fact that the town "has been in the dark for a year."
Cable theft
On the other hand, the mayor also assured that fortunately her municipality "is calmer" with the issue of cable theft to obtain copper. María Dolores Corujo had a meeting with the island delegate of the General State Administration, María Dolores Luzardo, in which she explained that the municipality was suffering a wave of robberies, even in the cemetery itself.
"All the Security Forces were put in coordination to investigate which companies were selling this copper to. I know that they are working in that line and that in my municipality it is giving good results," she indicated.
