"They haven't paid us for the month of August and they are coercing us to sign a zero severance pay," said Santiago Ocaña, representative of the workers, who assures that Clínicas Lanzarote S. L. is "blackmailing" the workers to sign a severance pay with the same amount as the salary they are owed or "we don't get anything".
"Many of the workers who have joined after the holidays, forced of course, have found that their workplaces are closed," explained Vicky Sander, member of CC.OO. And Clínicas Lanzarote had three centers on the island, one in Teguise, another in Playa Blanca and another in Puerto del Carmen. Apparently only the latter remains open.
"What we have heard is that the company has signed a commercial agreement with another company and instead of subrogating the workers, as required by law, they are firing us all," said Ocaña at the door of his workplace. He also assured that the workers have already reported the situation to the Labor Inspectorate but while it is pronounced they will continue to carry out daily mobilizations until the company receives them.
In total there are 28 workers who will be affected by this alleged sale of two Clínicas Lanzarote centers, but they hope that the "coercion" of the company will cease with these concentrations and they will pay them the month they are owed, in addition to collecting the severance pay that belongs to them, and not only the amount of the month worked that has not yet been paid.
