The 46 women who make up the staff in charge of maintaining the cleanliness of the 10 schools in Arrecife have suspended this Monday the strike they had been holding since December 9 in protest for the non-payment of their salaries. This has been made known by the general secretary of the General Union of Workers (UGT) in Lanzarote, César Reyes, to the mayor of Arrecife, Cándido Reguera, and the councilor of Education, Lorenzo Lemaur Santana.
Both the capital's mayor and the rest of the councilors of the Government group have expressed their satisfaction at the imminent solution of a conflict that had become entrenched, due to problems with the company holding the service concession, Canarias Limpieza Urbana (CLUSA), which prevented a new entity from taking over the service and assuming the staff, as proposed by the City Council.
According to the City Council, the concessionaire company has made effective the payment of the November and December payrolls, reaching an agreement in principle, pending only to specify some points of the labor agreement. This means that from this Monday, the day classes resume after the Christmas vacation period, the schools will once again have all their cleaners.
The Councilor of Education also announced the visit this Monday of the territorial director of Education, Julio Gutiérrez, to the Arrecife City Council, to seek a definitive solution to the cleaning of the schools in the capital.
