This Friday, the N1 Arrecife zodiac was presented in front of the Town Hall. It is a boat of five and a half meters in length, two meters twenty in beam, a seventy horsepower engine, equipped with GPS, radio, probe, extinguisher and capacity for nine people.

The zodiac, ceded by the Security and Emergency Consortium of Lanzarote with a budget of 2,500 euros, is registered for emergencies and has a special recreation certificate, so it can be used for rescue on the coast without exceeding five miles and sporting events.

The mayor of Arrecife, Eva de Anta, the Councilor for Security and Emergencies, Manuel Hernández, and several members of Civil Protection were present at the event. "With this new boat we want to reinforce the material to make the work more effective and efficient," said the mayor.

"I take this opportunity to thank the voluntary, selfless and philanthropic work of the members of Civil Protection, who dedicate a good part of their free time to collaborate in the safety of the activities we organize for citizen enjoyment," he added.

With this new resource, the thirty Civil Protection volunteers have seven vehicles, four motorcycles and the new boat as well as emergency training.

Councilor Manuel Hernández recalled that in a few weeks a new pioneering course on the island will be held on 'Emergency care techniques for first responders', aimed at members of the Civil Protection of the municipality of Arrecife.

The volunteers from the capital will be trained in new action protocols in emergencies, polytrauma, basic assumptions and life support. The mayoress and the councilor took advantage of the presentation to encourage everyone to collaborate in this active volunteering, through which "they not only help their fellow citizens but will receive valuable training in care techniques, first aid and an interesting experience in intervention and response to emergency situations".

"So far this year, Civil Protection of Arrecife has carried out dozens of interventions including preventive services, fires and emergencies within the municipality. Our purpose is to continue in this line," said Hernández.
