CC urges the PSOE to abandon the policies of "whims" in the face of the housing crisis suffered by Arrecife

Echedey Eugenio, spokesperson for CC in the capital's City Council, states that "the declaration of stressed areas solves nothing; instead of addressing the housing emergency, this measure increases rental prices."

Coalición Canaria Arrecife, through its spokesperson in the capital's City Council, Echedey Eugenio, urges the Socialist Party to abandon policies of "whims", especially with regard to the housing crisis that the Canary Islands in general and Lanzarote and Arrecife in particular are suffering.

Eugenio has criticized the socialists' proposal to declare Arrecife a stressed rental area, emphasizing the need to address the problem with "effective solutions and not with superficial measures."

"The declaration of stressed areas solves nothing, and we have Catalonia as an example, where after the entry into force of the stressed areas last March, instead of addressing the housing emergency, this measure has increased rental prices," he said, insisting that "I don't think that's what we want here, I don't think we want to apply a measure that further hinders the emancipation of our young people and access to reasonable rents for the population in general."

Thus, he insisted that the regulation of prices through an index established by the Ministry of Finance, as is done in stressed areas, "is not an effective measure to address the housing emergency, but also its effects are totally counterproductive and do not solve the problem."

On the other hand, the nationalist leader recalls that "it is now, with CC in the Presidency of the Government of the Canary Islands, that decisions are being made and actions are being taken to address the housing crisis, such as the approval of the Vacation Rental Law and a Royal Decree to facilitate access to housing, as well as the construction of public housing and social rentals in Arrecife."

"This government is addressing the housing problem with seriousness and responsibility, something that the PSOE did not do during its mandate," he adds.

In this sense, Eugenio calls for addressing the issue of housing "with the seriousness it deserves and to put aside whims, focusing on concrete and effective solutions to resolve the housing crisis not only in Arrecife but throughout the Canary Islands."
