CC requests Zapatero's direct intervention in the face of the State's "summer paralysis" in controlling irregular immigration

The Secretary of Organization of the Canarian Coalition (CC), José Miguel Barragán, warns about the "summer paralysis" of the different Ministries involved in the control of irregular immigration in the Archipelago and the diplomatic contacts with the countries of northwest Africa, despite "the humanitarian drama that is experienced almost daily with the loss of new lives in the crossing to the islands and the incessant arrival of cayucos to the coasts of almost all the islands".

Faced with this situation, José Miguel Barragán demands that the President of the Government of the State, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, as a "direct witness" in the Canary Islands of the drama that affects the islands, "order his ministers to form a crisis cabinet, just as his Executive has done on other open fronts during the present month of August, to avoid the continuous lack of protection of the Canarian maritime borders".

The Canarian nationalists consider that "the praiseworthy" gesture of the President of the Government of the State with his visit to Galicia to coordinate in situ the emergency device applied to control the countless fires "should be repeated by Zapatero in the Canary Islands since the humanitarian drama continues to be in force".

José Miguel Barragán trusts that the fact that the arrival of cayucos "is no longer a matter of maximum state informative interest has not placed this serious problem in the background on the presidential agenda". In addition, the Secretary of Organization of CC regrets that the agenda of the President of the Government for the present month of August does not include the treatment of irregular immigration - taking advantage of his vacations in Lanzarote - and only contemplates the celebration of a rally in Gran Canaria and an act with the banana sector in La Palma.

FRONTEX DELAY

José Miguel Barragán emphasizes that "the imprecision in the date of entry into force of the device of the European Agency for the operational cooperation of the external borders (FRONTEX) is an example of the paralysis and the lack of coordination of the Executive in matters of immigration both between its departments and in its relations with the EU".

However, the Secretary of Organization of CC believes that "the current approach of FRONTEX, consisting of a conjunctural initiative, will turn this project into a mere smokescreen since the continuity of migratory flows requires consistent and stable projects".

NO MORAL AUTHORITY IN AFRICA

The Secretary of Organization of CC regrets, on the other hand, that the diplomatic tour made a few dates ago by the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs through several countries of northwest Africa, in addition to the subsequent trip of the head of Foreign Affairs, "has not given results, which shows that the Government of Zapatero has no moral or diplomatic authority in Sub-Saharan Africa".

"And while 45 immigrants have died in the last 48 hours in their frustrated journey to the Canary Islands, in addition to those of whom we have no news, and the Canarian maritime border is a real sieve, the President of the Government and the Minister of Foreign Affairs continue in Bethlehem with the shepherds", concludes Barragán.
