CC requests that the Cabildo take charge of the renovation of the modernist house in Famara

The nationalist political group (CC-PNC-SB) has submitted a motion to the Cabildo plenary session for the institution to take "direct" charge of the financing and subsidiary execution of the reform project of the house of Luis Ramírez de Caleta de Famara, "a modernist-style building of great architectural value that is currently in an advanced state of deterioration".

After having presided over the Island Corporation for almost ten years, CC regrets that now "despite the fact that the Cabildo has a budget item for the adaptation and reform of the house of the philanthropist Luis Ramírez, an emblem of the fishing village of Caleta de Famara, we continue to witness its collapse with shame because the reform project presented by the Diocese of the Canary Islands, owner of the property, did not meet the criteria of the Heritage Area of the Cabildo and was unacceptable in the eyes of the Corporation's technicians".

In this sense, the nationalists recall that the previous president of the Cabildo, Pedro San Ginés, signed with the vicar general of the Diocese of the Canary Islands, Hipólito Cabrera González, "a framework agreement for the protection, conservation and restoration of assets of cultural interest or catalogued as ecclesiastical property located in Lanzarote, in order to protect and conserve the rich architectural heritage and the patrimonial and cultural assets treasured by the Diocese of the Canary Islands.

This agreement, according to CC, "established that the Diocese would take charge of drafting the restoration and conservation projects, as well as the direction and execution of the works, while the Cabildo would collaborate with a nominated subsidy for the restoration and conservation of these patrimonial and architectural assets".

However, "given the problems that have arisen, the Nationalist Group requests the direct execution of the reform project of the modernist-style house in Caleta de Famara by the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa", they conclude.
