The island secretary of the Canarian Coalition in Lanzarote, Migdalia Machín, "deeply regrets that the Ministry of the Interior has overlooked the proposal of the Haría City Council so that the installation of the controversial Comprehensive Exterior Surveillance System (SIVE) does not affect spaces as emblematic as the Guinate Viewpoint", and that on the contrary "has begun the works for the radar without taking into account the northern Consistory."
"We had the confidence that the issue of the location had been settled and we could have once and for all an instrument that helps us avoid the loss of more human lives," Machín stressed, who recalled that the land on which the works are being carried out "is located at the confluence of two protected natural spaces, the Chinijo Archipelago and Malpaís de la Corona."
"Throughout this process, the Ministry of the Interior has not maintained institutional respect for the Haría City Council and this is something that cannot be tolerated," said the nationalist leader, who stressed that "we have always been in favor of the installation of the SIVE, but not in any way, but taking into account all the institutions, because it is an essential tool to avoid the tragedy of the loss of human lives."
The Canarian Coalition adds that for the location of the SIVE in the Guinate Viewpoint, "at the time, a commitment was reached to modify both the project and the study of the declaration of emergency" but months later, "the Ministry of the Interior again requested the availability of the land from the City Council, placing the building again in the original place, that is, in the middle of the Viewpoint." Faced with this situation, the party adds that the City Council "again reminded the Ministry of the agreement reached and that they had not complied."
The island secretary of CC highlights that "it is clear that the PSOE of Lanzarote is, once again, submissive to Madrid and tries to sell that it is doing the best for the island, but its actions show just the opposite."
