"One of the milestones to be achieved with this model is to create in the cradle of the conejero carnival a space like the Casa del Carnaval of Tenerife", says Betancort

The candidate of Coalición Canaria to the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, proposes to relaunch the Carnival of Lanzarote and La Graciosa with a new management model, for which he considers "necessary the creation of a mixed entity with its own financial record for the groups and a headquarters for the dissemination of the history and culture of the Carnival of both islands, and thus achieve the objective of relaunching these festivals at a tourist and cultural level."

“It is a well-known fact that the Carnival of Lanzarote and La Graciosa is one of the most important festivals of the year, which is attended by thousands of people to enjoy the parades, the costume contests, the performances of murgas, the music of comparsas and batucadas and all the events that are organized and characterize this celebration so ours. But, despite its importance, the Carnival is still an event that lacks the promotion and financial support necessary to reach its full potential”, considers Betancort.

"This proposal delves into the one that Coalición Canaria has been carrying out from the capital of the island, through its candidate Echedey Eugenio, and as a result of the work that has been developed hand in hand with the different groups since the pandemic, seeking an organism that debureaucratizes the procedures to process an activity that needs dynamism in management and knowledge of the sector in decision-making", they say from CC.

The Carnival is made by the groups and people who participate in it and the administrations must put in their hands the tools so that they are executed more effectively”, Eugenio emphasizes.

In this way, both leaders insist that “we must work hand in hand in promoting the carnival as part of our traditions and to encourage the participation of our people, but we must also promote it in order to turn it into a Festival of International Tourist Interest that becomes another attraction of Lanzarote as a destination.”

Betancort adds that, "in addition to offering a financial record that supports the groups of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, one of the milestones to be achieved with this model is to create in the cradle of the conejero carnival a space like the Casa del Carnaval of Tenerife, for the dissemination of our carnival history and culture”.

"With the aim of ensuring that the carnival of Lanzarote and La Graciosa reaches its maximum potential, the proposed model seeks to promote tourist interest, as well as offer a platform for the different groups to show their talent, not only acting once or twice a year", criticize from the party.

According to the nationalist candidate for the Presidency of the Cabildo, this project “would boost the local economy, the generation of employment, and also raise the culture and diversity of the island, since the carnival of Lanzarote and La Graciosa is a unique celebration that deserves to be promoted and supported.”

Oswaldo Betancort insists that “this model seeks to promote our carnival culture and ensure that the carnival becomes an unforgettable experience for tourists, locals and participating groups and collectives, with the collaboration of all and the implementation of a project that is born from the reflection of all the agents involved, who dedicate many months to the preparation of parties that could have greater scope and vision”, he concludes.
