CC denounces the “privatization” of Bajamar street in Puerto del Carmen

The spokesperson for the Canarian Coalition in the Tías City Council, Amado Vizcaíno, has denounced the measure applied by the municipal government group on Bajamar street in Puerto del Carmen, which he has described as "privatization."

"It is a road where residents and visitors parked their vehicles when they wanted to go down to enjoy a swim in the sea at Playa Chica, and which today are prohibited from using except for authorized vehicles, which are limited to diving centers and some residents," Vizcaíno points out.

The nationalist spokesperson has indicated that he has already addressed the corporation's plenary session to inquire about who is authorized to park on the aforementioned street and what criteria have been followed to grant the necessary permits for this, "given the absence of a regulatory ordinance in this regard," although for the moment he assures that "there has been no response from the municipal government group."

"It has been more than a year since the government group rejected a motion in which we requested that preferential parking green areas be enabled for residents, receiving as a response that they were already working on it, although a year later the mayor has authorized some to access parking on the street that he denies to others," adds the councilor.

From CC they assure that the measure is also harming many diving enthusiasts, an activity they practice in the surroundings of Playa Chica, "who are now prevented from accessing with their private vehicle, greatly hindering the transport of the necessary material for the practice of this sports modality."

On the other hand, the Canarian Coalition in Tías has also announced that they will request "the list of fines imposed in that area and that all complaints be annulled in the face of the illegality of this measure."

Therefore, the spokesperson for the nationalist formation in Tías has demanded that the municipal government "reverse, annul this measure that makes no sense and proceed to find a solution to the problem."

"From our point of view, it would involve the execution of the project planned for the area since the last legislature, which contemplates the realization of optimal facilities in the area to provide them with bathrooms and other entrances and exits to the sea to decongest Playa Chica," says the councilor.

"It is a project with authorization from Coasts and a budget close to one million euros that has now also disappeared from the priorities of the current government, without giving explanations about the destination of the funds that were allocated in the Municipal Cooperation Plan of the Cabildo of Lanzarote under the presidency of the Canarian Coalition," he adds.

"It is a very necessary project in which we had announced that we were going to work with active tourism companies, especially diving companies, to study with them how we could improve the area, especially during the summer with the arrival of good weather, as it is a family beach widely demanded by the residents of the municipality and the hundreds of thousands of tourists who come to Lanzarote annually to practice diving," concludes Vizcaíno.
