The spokesman for the Canary Coalition in the Tías City Council, Amado Vizcaíno, regrets that the southern mayor "continues without taking drastic measures to end the container fires that have become common in areas of the municipality such as Teide Street."
"We thought that in this new term things could change, but we have been a month and everything remains the same or worse than before May 28," says Vizcaíno, who asks for "the urgent installation of cameras to control and trap, those who have turned these fires into a sport, without anyone taking action on the matter."
Vizcaíno does not understand "why instead of activating a surveillance system that controls the area, the only measure that has been taken so far by the municipal government is to eliminate recycling containers."
That is, "instead of solving the problem," says the nationalist councilor, "they prefer to harm the neighbors who, on top of that, now see how, in the absence of recycling containers, the latest feat of these uncivil characters has been to set fire to the organic waste containers located on Teide Street, also setting fire to a vehicle that was parked nearby and that, thanks to the intervention of the emergency services, a tragedy was avoided."
"What happens on this street, as in so many others in the municipality, is not something new," he points out. "They are danger points for those who reside in the area, who are seeing how the ineffectiveness of their rulers is not only destroying street furniture but also endangering the assets of individuals," he adds.
"Months ago we presented a motion asking for fireproof containers to be installed and the response from the PSOE and Podemos was that it was not necessary and that this type of container was also more expensive to repair," recalls Vizcaíno, who adds that at this point "the cost of burned containers far exceeds the investment that could have been made in those made of fireproof material."
"Perhaps the solution they are looking for now is also to eliminate organic waste containers," he laments, and assures that "the last burned containers were replaced by an old model."
"The need for the necessary cameras to be installed to eliminate an ever-increasing danger"
It is for this reason that, given the demand of the neighbors, CC insists on "the need for the necessary cameras to be installed to eliminate an ever-increasing danger, and demands that recycling containers be reinstalled where they have always been."
"It is not about removing the containers so that they do not burn them. It is about finding solutions that do not harm the neighbors," concludes the spokesman.
