CC criticizes the PP for proposing to search for oil in the Canary Islands while asking for it to be stopped in the Balearic Islands

The national president of the Canarian Coalition, Claudina Morales, accuses the Popular Party of using a "double standard" with respect to oil exploration, by asking that the location of oil or gas pockets be investigated off the coasts of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura and, at the same time, process an initiative in Congress in which they urge the State Government to revoke the authorization granted to carry out oil exploration in the maritime zone located between the Gulf of Valencia and Ibiza.

Claudina Morales refers to the report requested by the president of the PP, Mariano Rajoy, from the Foundation for Analysis and Social Studies (FAES), directed by José María Aznar, in which they advocate exploring the oil and gas resources potentially available in territory and waters, such as those located near the Canary Islands. In the document, they refer to the Canary Islands as an "example of the paralysis in which the request of the Repsol company has been for almost a decade".

The president of CC points out that "the PP's proposal contrasts with the Non-Law Proposal (PNL) presented by the Populars in Congress, for debate in the committees on the Environment and Industry, Tourism and Commerce, in which they demand that "the opposition to the decision of the central Executive be noted, due to the negative consequences that may occur at the environmental, economic and tourist levels".

Morales regrets that "the PP is concerned about the environmental repercussions that oil exploration could have in the Mediterranean and does not show the same concern in the case of the Canary Islands".

The president of CC anticipates that the nationalist deputies will amend the PNL of the Populars so that the Canary Islands are included in it.

Morales adds that the proposal raised by FAES, at the request of the PP, has also been demanded by the Popular Party of the Canary Islands, which has distanced itself from its colleagues in the Balearic Islands, who oppose the authorized explorations in the Mediterranean, arguing that "the main damages that would derive from the exploitation of oil resources on the coast between Valencia and Ibiza would be of an environmental nature and would imply an alteration of an essential part of the tourist attraction of the two territories".
