CC asks for the support of the Canarian PSOE for the reform of the statute

The approval of the Statute of Catalonia in Parliament has led to an analysis of the new situation by all political parties. Coalición Canaria, which is holding its island congress today but held a meeting of its Permanent Committee last night, was no exception.

CC asks for the support of the Canarian PSOE for the reform of the statute

In the case of the Canary Islands, Paulino Rivero, president of the party, highlighted: "We expect the coherence of political forces such as the Canarian POSE to aspire to a statute of maximums for the Canary Islands." Furthermore, the formation considers that the document should abide by the needs of the Archipelago. Thus, they point out that the reform has many more reasons forged on a clear reality by having the territory specific characteristics.

The objectives that CC raises with the reform of the statute are the control of immigration, the surveillance of the entry of phytosanitary products, foreign health, having the competence to control work and residence permits for foreigners, the full or partial management of airports and ports "with what that means to articulate a whole policy of mobility in the Archipelago and of this with the exterior, especially when we depend on tourism", assured Paulino Rivero. The statute should also refer to foreign trade due to the proximity to Africa with which cooperation policies or relations with neighboring countries are carried out. It also highlights the recognition of the Canarian maritime spaces for the control of marine resources.

Meeting

The main topic that was discussed at the meeting of the Permanent Commission held last night among the top representatives of Coalición Canaria was to announce the principle of agreement reached this week in Madrid on the general state budgets for 2006 as well as the intention that this agreement extends throughout the legislature from the budgetary perspective. In this way, one of the most outstanding objectives is inter-island transport, which Paulino Rivero defined as one of the conquests of CC "which began in '98 when in the Canary Islands we had a 10% discount for residents and in 2006 we already have it at 45%". On the other hand, in health financing, the party has shown its disagreement over the allocation of resources to mitigate the health deficit of the autonomous communities. For this, the formation considers it necessary to maintain the amounts that correspond to it both from the distribution of the Fiscal and Financial Policy Council plus 80 million euros. Thus, the budgets for the Canary Islands increase by 26% "without taking into account the improvements that we could achieve with the amendments", pointed out the president of CC.
