Coalition Canaria has responded to the statements of the socialists of Lanzarote, who accused the nationalist party of trying to help the residents of Valterra, whose homes are suffering a judicial process filed by former canneries, for electoral purposes. CC has assured that it will not tolerate "the neglect" of the PSOE "preventing the solution of the problems of the citizens of Lanzarote".
In this sense, it has explained that it was the residents of Valterra themselves who requested a meeting with the national deputies Ana Oramas and José Luis Perestelo and that, in turn, it was these politicians who achieved a meeting with the director of the National Housing Institute. "The proof that there has been no electoral tint in the efforts made is that, from our formation, there has never been a press release in this regard nor has publicity been given to the efforts made by our deputies," CC said in a statement.
And, indeed, it was not CC who made this meeting and its content public, but it was one of the residents of Valterra, Antonio Betancort, who explained on Radio Lanzarote that, in this meeting, the Social Institute of the Navy had assured that the ownership of the land belongs to them and that, therefore, the residents could continue enjoying these houses. However, it will be the sentence that decides whether the ownership of the land belongs to the Institute of the Navy or to the former canneries, which intend to evict these residents, who have been residing in these homes for more than 50 years.
CC also wanted to make it clear that "it is striking" that after the meeting that this party achieved with the director of the National Housing Institute, the PSOE "has now moved its piece" to get a representative of the Social Institute of the Navy to travel to Arrecife to directly inform the affected residents, as announced by the socialists this Wednesday. For CC, in this way the PSOE "has shown that it is not the residents who are their object of concern, but the fact that it is CC who has tried to give a solution" to this problem.
Finally, the nationalist formation has assured that "it will not tolerate the neglect of the Lanzarote socialists, who have not done their job, preventing the solution of the problems of the citizens of Lanzarote, and also accuse of being electoralist those who have acted responsibly in this matter".
