The spokesperson for the Canarian Coalition in the San Bartolomé City Council, David Rocío, has described as an "absolute disgrace" that "the socialist mayor, Alexis Tejera, has decided to cede to the Government of the Canary Islands for five years the powers to create new local police positions, turning a blind eye to the wave of crime that the municipality is suffering."
“These are not isolated cases, we are talking about the feeling of insecurity that our neighbors have with the continuous cases of robberies, burning containers, proliferation of drug sales points, etcetera,” says Rocío.
For the spokesperson, "the decision of the mayor and his government team is nothing more than palpable proof that he continues to not assume his responsibilities, evading the commitment to safeguard the interests and well-being of the residents of San Bartolomé, acquired from the moment he occupied the mayor's chair."
Likewise, the CC councilor regrets that "Tejera continues to reject the outstretched hand of a responsible opposition, dismissing, once again, the proposals presented in the plenary session held today, Wednesday, July 28th." “They have rejected the four motions that we have presented. So neither the cleaning and garden care workers will be on a full-time schedule, nor will the municipality's network of trails be recovered, nor will the municipal sports facilities be reopened, nor of course do they have any intention of defending the REF and our Statute of Autonomy,” emphasizes David Rocío.
According to CC, the first mayor of San Bartolomé has also not agreed to appear in the plenary session "to give explanations about what exactly is the situation in which the El Porvenir Society is at this moment, as well as about the accusations made by it and that have led to the breakdown of negotiations."
“We have proposed that they let us lead the negotiations to reach an agreement. If we have the technicians at our disposal, we will solve the problem in two months, but if what he wants is to expropriate it, let him continue through the executive route,” says Rocío.
