The Canary Islands is the second autonomous community with the highest rate of reports of gender violence, followed by the Balearic Islands, in the first quarter of 2013. This is highlighted by the statistics released this Thursday by the Observatory against Domestic and Gender Violence, based in the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ).
In this period, 1,727 complaints were filed in the Canary Islands, which represents 16.28 per 10,000 women. Of these complaints, a total of 164 women decided to renounce the process.
This complaint rate is only surpassed by the Balearic Community. According to this statistic, in these islands, 16.39 complaints were registered in the first quarter of the year per 10,000 women. Specifically, 911 lawsuits were filed, although 104 people ended up renouncing the process. In all of Spain, 29,487 complaints were filed, which represents 12.34 per 10,000 women.
Also, a total of 551 protection orders were initiated in this period to the Government of the Canary Islands, which resolved 340 positively and denied 211. Throughout Spain, 7,750 women requested protection and it was resolved positively only to 59 percent of them.
