Cabrera announces the creation of a registry of buildings of heritage value

The Arrecife City Council will establish special protection for properties of interest

The Councilor for Urban Planning of the Arrecife City Council, Nuria Cabrera, explained yesterday that there is a demolition license for the old Civil Guard building located in La Plazuela. Recently, an alarmed reader reported to La Voz the presence of machines in the vicinity of the house to tear it down. However, Cabrera pointed out that the demolition is totally legal and that, in addition, "when the commercial premises were made in the lower part, the structure was touched".

Although nothing can be done to prevent this demolition, Cabrera specified that the City Council is concerned about the future of the old buildings in the city that for various reasons are worth preserving.

For this reason, the Consistory intends to draw up an exhaustive list of buildings with heritage value to prevent them from being damaged now that the suspension of licenses has been lifted. "In the Basic Adaptation of the General Plan there is already a small catalog of protected homes," he indicated. However, this is not as precise as desired, so municipal technicians are already working on a new one. In addition, Cabrera pointed out that "many of the listed buildings do not have enough value to be protected", so they will be removed from the index so that their owners can carry out works freely.

When the list is complete, it will be taken to the Plenary so that the Basic Adaptation of the General Plan can be modified and a suspension of licenses can be established only for properties of interest.
