All the business organizations of Lanzarote have expressed their desire for the future new dike of Playa Blanca to "play a strategic role with Fuerteventura" and for its dimension and characteristics to be reflected in the new Tourism and Urban Development Plan of Yaiza, designed by the Dutch architect Ben Van Berkel.
A representation of the Lanzarote Business Confederation, Business Circle, and Association of Construction Entrepreneurs held working meetings on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning with the team of this prestigious architect for the consensus and projection of the new Yaiza Plan for this 21st century.
The drafters, as well as the Councilor for Urban Planning of Yaiza, José Antonio Rodríguez, present at the meeting, were pleased to share the same opinion on the dimensions of the port of Playa Blanca and its infrastructures. In this regard, it was stated "that only the new dike should have a length of less than 350 meters to exclusively allow the operability of the current ships that operate with Fuerteventura, and allocate the current dock to fishing and nautical sports activities linked to traditional maritime sports in the Canary Islands".
In the meetings with the trade union organizations and construction entrepreneurs, the need to ensure that official protection housing can be built in Playa Blanca was emphasized, in a new concept of an integrated city with services and public facilities compatible with the quality tourist area that is intended to be promoted in Playa Blanca throughout this 21st century.
The meetings of the team of Ben Van Berkel and Juan Palop, architect and professor at the ULPGC, who were awarded the tender by the Yaiza City Council last year, culminate tomorrow with the participation of representatives of neighborhood associations and environmental groups.
These meetings, which will be held again next March, are part of a preliminary round to learn the opinions and suggestions of political parties in Yaiza, business, trade union and other social agents.
