Betancort expresses his concern that the Playa Blanca dock will become a cargo port

The Lanzarote parliamentarian for the Canarian Nationalist Group (CC-PNC-AHÍ), Oswaldo Betancort, has announced that he will ask in parliamentary session about an issue that concerns the island of Lanzarote upon learning of the possibility that the future Playa Blanca dock will become a port of entry for heavy goods, and not be used for tourism, as the island demands in view of its development and the need to expand the current port.

"Many people fear this change of heart on the part of the Socialist Government, so we would like the Ministry of Public Works and Transport to clarify whether the project designed a priori to provide a better quality of life for residents, as well as improve maritime connections between Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, and facilitate fishing activity" - Betancort questions, "will take an unexpected and unwanted turn, due to the negative effect that enabling the docking of more lines and heavy goods would have".

In this sense, "I convey from my position as a parliamentarian and defender of the interests of Lanzarote, my concern about knowing the true intention of your government group on a sensitive area for the economic and tourist progress of an island that staunchly defends a model of tourism development compatible with its territory".

For this reason, and in view of the suspicion of the change of use that may be intended, which he considers incompatible with the project initially proposed for Playa Blanca, Oswaldo Betancort will demand from the Canary Islands Government "an explanation of what the future will be of an infrastructure conceived to improve connections for residents and also for cruise tourism".
