Bergaz criticizes Betancort for his "attempt to boycott the works of the North Line pipeline"

"The reason given for the stoppage was the lack of a traffic safety plan that, as the Government of the Canary Islands explained in a document registered this past Saturday, was already in the possession of the City Council," says Bergaz

The spokesperson for the Socialist Group in the Teguise City Council, Marcos Bergaz, has reproached the mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, for "his new attempt to boycott the works of the North Line pipeline, which will solve the historical water problems in Teguise and Haría."

The socialist councilor said he was "astonished" since "the reason given for the stoppage was the lack of a traffic safety plan that, as the Government of the Canary Islands explained in a document registered this past Saturday, was already in the possession of the City Council."

"Oswaldo Betancort cannot bear that it is the Socialist Party that solves the problems that Coalición Canaria could not fix," Bergaz reproached, who pointed out "the appalling ridicule of the mayor for stopping works of such importance due to the lack of documentation that was already in the possession of the City Council."

According to Bergaz, "Betancort's strategy has failed due to his permanent absence from the consistory since, as he doesn't even pass by the City Council, he doesn't find out what is happening."

The socialist spokesperson recalled that "this is a work of extraordinary importance, which was approved with its current layout by the Teguise City Council itself, which even made the land available through which the work is carried out, and then began a campaign to try to block it."

"In all cities, water pipes, with more pressure and flow than in this case, run through public roads without any problem, but Betancort has chosen to create a problem where there is none in his determination to delay this work," explained Bergaz, who pointed out that if the layout authorized by Oswaldo Betancort himself were modified, the work could be delayed by more than two years, as it would be necessary to change the planning.

"The least that is asked of a mayor, who also intends to run for the presidency of the Cabildo, is that he behaves with institutional loyalty, and Oswaldo Betancort has demonstrated, once again, that he is not up to the task," Bergaz reproached, who concluded by warning that "the Socialist Group will request the stoppage file since there are more than well-founded suspicions that the mayor's order ordering the cessation of the works could be irregular."
