A new promenade will connect the center of Arrecife, through the Charco de San Ginés, with the new south dock and the cruise ship dock of the capital. The mayor of Arrecife, Ástrid Pérez, attended this Monday morning the beginning of the asphalt works of the entire new promenade, whose works were awarded and financed by the Port Authority of Las Palmas, through an agreement signed with the City Council.
From the Consistory they also remember that, since the first days of August, the construction of the new roundabout for access to the Arrecife cruise ship dock and the future south dock is underway, whose works are scheduled to be completed in the summer of next year.
The City Council affirms that the works on the pedestrian promenade and the new roundabout on Avenida Olof Palme, in the area near the Islote del Francés, which connects La Puntilla, in the Charco de San Ginés, with Calle Juan de Quesada, where the Instituto Marítimo Pesquero de Canarias is located, will be completed much earlier.
Investment plans of the Port Authority
The Port Authority of Las Palmas awarded the construction of these works to the construction company Lanzagrava for 239,273.74 euros, after the bidding budget was 318,606.86 euros, including taxes. The investment is included in the actions planned by Puertos del Estado, through the Port Authority, for the capital of Lanzarote.
This roundabout, according to the Consistory, will facilitate traffic in the access area to the Marina Lanzarote marina with the future south dock, and to the current Arrecife cruise ship dock. In addition, it is pointed out that from this autumn it is expected that traffic through this area of Avenida Olof Palme will be "more intense" after the recent reopening to traffic of Avenida Marítima agreed by the new government group.
According to the City Council, the investment plans of the Port Authority of Las Palmas in the capital of Lanzarote, where they are currently financing the works of the Duque de Alba, the new south dock to provide greater operational safety to the Los Mármoles dock and the maritime area of Naos, and improvements in the interior area of Puerto de Naos, including the marking of the fishing area and the nautical sports area in the Marina Lanzarote pontoons, will make it possible for the city of Arrecife to premiere this new promenade in the coming weeks, whose works are progressing "at a good pace".
Call of two "luxurious" cruises
In addition, the Consistory points out that, with regard to the activity of large ships, Arrecife will receive this Tuesday, October 15, the call of the "luxurious" cruise ship Shapphire Princess, with 700 balconies, 18 decks, 290 meters in length, 63 meters in height, 1,337 cabins, 115,875 tons of gross tonnage, and almost 4,000 people between passengers and crew.
The ship will set sail in the afternoon from Arrecife bound for the south of England and on Thursday 17 the mythical Queen Victoria will arrive, one of the "most luxurious" English ships, which will depart from Lanzarote to the port of La Coruña
