During the day last Saturday, the first open assembly of the Socialist Grouping for Lanzarote was held, "as a space as a debate forum in which it was decided, among other issues and unanimously, to demand from the PSOE and the councilors Tomás Fajardo and Isabel Mesa a real management of municipal resources and the provision of essential and mandatory services for the residents of Arrecife, taking into account the precarious situation that the city is going through, especially the most vulnerable areas and that seem to have been forgotten by the government group and that are the neighborhoods of the capital".
From ASL they state that "the planning, direction, control and technique, both in a material and operational sense of the mandatory municipal services is almost non-existent due to a null management and obvious lack of municipal leadership".
The decision of the assembly to remind the PSOE and the councilors Tomás Fajardo and Isabel Mesa was unanimous, that both social services, as well as lighting, public transport and street cleaning, sidewalks included, are mandatory municipal services and, as such, are indicators of the quality of life that citizens, the final recipients of the activity as consumers and users, can enjoy, as well as the efficiency, effectiveness and transparency of their managers and political leaders in the exercise of their provision through the use of the public powers that they have attributed.
The assembly also recalled that municipal services, in their capacity as rights of the citizens of a municipality, must be safe, so they must not present any risk to the health or integrity of people.
On June 18, 2018, ASL reminded the Mayor of Arrecife of the existence of a pool of social workers that could alleviate the crisis situation in which such a sensitive area as the social services of the city council finds itself. In addition, it was emphasized that in such a delicate situation in an area of such social importance, vacancies of more than six months could not be allowed in positions of special relevance such as that of the social worker of Argana. Today, more than four months later and after several unfulfilled promises by the mayoress and her councilor of Social Services, such a populous neighborhood of Arrecife continues without a social worker.
The quality of public lighting and the need for residents to receive a service in conditions that allows them to leave their homes at night with peace of mind and walk the streets without having to resort to the light of their mobile phone or stay in their homes to avoid the darkness that reigns in neighborhoods such as Tinasoria was also discussed at the assembly.
They also point out that "public transport is also a concern for the residents of Arrecife who have seen the bus lines reduced without any explanation and find it difficult to get to such essential areas as the Insular Hospital and or Doctor José Molina Orosa". In this sense, Nayra Callero commented: "When even the provision of mandatory services fails, the total inability of the current government of the capital is clearly demonstrated".
The Socialist Grouping for Lanzarote took the opportunity to outline its electoral program for the municipal elections of 2019, taking into account, they point out, "the interesting ideas that emerged during this first open assembly, and that participation is the main asset of ASL and with it the first steps are taken for the transformation of the society in which we live".
