El Greco street in Arrecife will become a "semi-pedestrian" road, as announced by the mayor of the capital, Ástrid Pérez, on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero.

According to Pérez, the intervention project is already being "developed", after its drafting was awarded to a company. "The project is already commissioned, but we have to wait for them to do it and then tender the work. This takes time, because the public administration is slow, but it is already underway," he said.

"When I arrived 15 months ago, we had lost the money from the 2016, 2017 and 2018 Cooperation Plan because we had no projects. Now, fortunately, negotiating with the Cabildo, they have allowed us to recover that money that corresponded to us, because we already have projects. So, we have been able to do many projects for that money. We are going to fix many streets and one of them is going to be El Greco," he added.

A single platform to eliminate architectural barriers

The mayor explained that the intention is to semi-pedestrianize the road "with a single platform", that is, the sidewalks will be at the same level as the road. "Basically there will be planters to delimit the space a little," he pointed out.

With the single platform, according to the City Council, architectural barriers will also be eliminated. In fact, these works would be part of the accessibility improvement plan that the government group has already begun to implement in some streets of the capital.

Given that El Greco street converges with Manolo Millares street at its exit from Arrecife, the project will have to determine how to intervene at that intersection. In addition, the Consistory has indicated that it is possible that the pedestrian crossing from Avenida de la Mancomunidad, in front of El Reducto, towards El Greco street will also be intervened.

"The project will have to determine how to intervene and unite everything," they have transferred from the Consistory, from where they have indicated that once the project is drafted and the execution budget is known, the work will be put out to tender, which is expected "during the first semester of next year."
