Arrecife will reopen the Argana Sports Pavilion this spring

One of the biggest interventions has focused on the repair of the entire roof of this large pavilion, which, throughout its decade of closure, presented considerable damage.

The Arrecife City Council will reopen this spring the Argama Alta Sports Pavilion, a sports facility that has remained, until now, 12 years closed due to major defects in the building and failure to comply with safety and fire regulations. Under the municipal government, led by Mayor Yonathan de León, an agreement was reached with the concessionaire company of these facilities, and the necessary adaptation works were launched, which will allow legalization and opening.

The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, showed this Wednesday to the representatives of the residents of Argana Alta, the neighborhood with the largest population in Lanzarote, the culmination of these works, which will allow its reopening during this spring.

The mayor, accompanied by the Councilor for Sports, Eli Merino, announced this date after the representative of the concessionaire company guaranteed that the reform and adaptation works will conclude at the end of this month of February, or in the first weeks of March.

Only the placement of the new central platform remains to be undertaken, which has been delayed by shipping delays in the arrival of goods to the island, as stated to the media by Francisco Lázaro Torres, director for the Canary Islands of the concessionaire company.

The president of the Argana Neighborhood Association, Ricardo Ballesteros, has learned today of the important progress of these actions in what is also known as the Arrecife Sports Palace, both inside and outside. Ballesteros congratulated the mayor and his government group for "the merits in launching this reopening, already known and with a calendar."

The Arrecife City Council planned at the beginning of this term the resumption of the file that would allow activities to be carried out in the Argana Alta Sports Pavilion. After overcoming serious technical deficiencies and judicial procedures, for more than a decade, the venue will once again be available for the enjoyment of the community and local athletes, starting this first. The Councilor for Sports, Eli Merino, announced today that her Department "is already working on a calendar of events that will be based at this Sports Palace, within the Arrecife Capital of Sports strategy."

Among the interventions carried out in the Argana Sports Pavilion, the replacement of the exterior glass with materials in accordance with current regulations stands out. In addition, security measures such as fire-fighting equipment, evacuation doors and the adaptation of the capacity in accordance with established standards have been implemented. The works have allowed to adapt all the bathroom and changing room areas, providing units for people with reduced mobility, adaptation of the underground parking, and the repair of the rooms intended for the GYM.

A mandate "focused on the neighborhoods, more and better sports facilities"

The reopening of the Argana Alta Sports Pavilion is presented as a significant milestone for the Argana Alta community, the largest neighborhood in Arrecife, and for the entire municipality in general. Mayor Yonathan de León emphasizes that this project "is part of a municipal strategy focused on the neighborhoods, with additional investments in sports equipment in various areas of the city, where today before the media, he has broken down the new constructions in sports equipment with an investment of more than 5 million euros".
