The Arrecife City Council approved, unanimously, a motion presented by the non-attached councilor Carlos Alférez, which proposed "the enabling of a dog beach and the recovery of the Arrecife dog park."
"Modern societies are defined by the quality with which they are able to be enjoyed by their inhabitants but also by their pets," says Alférez.
The motion contains an important action plan in several areas. To enable the pet beach, Alférez argues that it is necessary to "initiate the process of the corresponding authorization before the department of demarcation of Coasts Canarias". Likewise, it proposes a modification or creation of the municipal ordinance "to allow the access of pets in the chosen section of the capital's coastline.
Regarding the recovery and rehabilitation of the existing dog park, the councilor assures that it is also necessary to "create inside areas for small dogs with independent entrances", as well as adapting these parks "to people with disabilities."
Alférez also proposes a common area for the stay of the owners with benches, specific containers for depositing excrement, water points for drinking, informative posters about opening hours and with rules of behavior. In addition, he requests that "new parks or areas for fun, play, training and recreation for the use of dogs and their owners" be enabled.
"These beaches also become new alternative leisure places where entire families enjoy the sea with their pets," says Carlos Alférez, who also points out that Alférez recalls that "Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, with 300,000 inhabitants, has 25 dog parks, while Arrecife with 64,000 inhabitants has only one and in very bad conditions."
