The Arrecife City Council put out to tender on November 5 the cleaning services in the ten schools of infant and primary education in the city for an estimated value of 4,581,660 euros, plus 320,716 euros of IGIC , for the next four years.

The cleaning service will include, according to the Consistory, "all the spaces of all educational centers, classrooms, dining rooms, multipurpose rooms, patios, sports courts, gyms, roofs, etc.", adding all the dependencies that are generated by expansion works, "excluding only the garden areas".

According to the City Council, the new cleaning contract is due to "the need to expand the service", given the increase in spaces for educational use that has been taking place in recent years and that has led to "a decrease in the quality of service delivery".

In addition, they add that in this contract, and in a novel way and at the request of the management teams of the centers themselves, "the number of workers that make up the cleaning teams, the hours of daily work depending on the number of users of each center" will be collected more rigidly and, at the same time, they point out that any change in these teams "will have to be explicitly authorized by the Arrecife City Council".

These measures, as explained in the explanatory memorandum, will also guarantee "the safety of schools that will control with much more reliability who accesses the center, have access to the keys to it or are aware of the keys to the anti-theft systems."

"The public schools of Arrecife had been decades without receiving any kind of improvements, we are reforming the schools, making them more accessible, and now also providing them with a more efficient and modern cleaning service," defended the mayor, Astrid Pérez.

"With this new contract for the next four years we not only increase the number of cleaning workers but also the planning of the service and the security in the access to the center of the assigned personnel", says the Councilor for Education, Saro González.

The City Council, through the Education Area, establishes among the personnel requirements "a total of 60 cleaners": seven for each of the CEIP Los Geranios, Capellanía de Yagabo, Nieves Toledo, Adolfo Tophan and Titerroy and Titerroy Infantil; and six for each of the CEIP Benito Méndez, Argana Alta, La Destila and Antonio Zerolo, with a total of 300 weekly hours of all staff, including the general manager.

Interested companies will have "until December 9 to submit their proposals", with December 13 being when the envelopes with the economic offers and documentation are opened, as stated in the tender announcement published on the Public Sector Procurement Platform.

Currently, the City Council recalls that the cleaning service of the Infant and Primary schools of Arrecife was being provided by the company Clece S.A., an entity from which the data relating to the subrogation of personnel and the expenses thereof are obtained.
