The Arrecife City Council has joined the platform for the reactivation of physical activity and sports in the Canary Islands 'More Sport', through an institutional declaration approved in the Plenary session last Friday. This initiative, formed by athletes, coaches and clubs, "seeks to give value and importance to physical activity, greatly diminished after the impact of the pandemic, and that it be considered as an essential activity", according to the Consistory.

The City Council points out that, by joining this initiative, it wanted to show its commitment to sport, "a fundamental activity for the prevention of diseases and to maintain a healthy life." Likewise, it is pointed out that the 'More Sport' platform defends that in our country infections in sports practice venues have had a "very low" incidence and have not posed a risk to athletes.

“This institutional declaration, signed by all the political forces present in the Arrecife Corporation, is in line with what has been publicly shown in these months to ensure that sports activities can be resumed”, said the mayoress of Arrecife, Ástrid Pérez.

For the first mayor, “it is already an important step to achieve that Lanzarote has dropped from alert level 4”, to three. Likewise, Ástrid Pérez hopes that the Government will move "very soon" to level 2 the islands of Lanzarote and La Graciosa "because infections have been significantly reduced”

“The City Council wanted to take this step forward and position ourselves once again on the side of all athletes and professionals who work for the sector. Sport should not be a problem but part of the solution”, said the Councilor for Sports of Arrecife, Roy González.
