The deputy mayor of the Arrecife City Council, Echedey Eugenio, and the councilor of Urbanism, Maciot Cabrera, began this Monday, May 26, the round of informative meetings with the residents of all the neighborhoods affected by the General Supplementary Plan (PGOUs), under the slogan "Arrecife has a Plan for everyone."
The first two meetings, headed by both councilors accompanied by the drafting team of the Plan, brought together dozens of citizens from the areas of the Las Vírgenes, El Cable and La Concha.
The two locations chosen for these first meetings were: a tent installed between Virgen de Covadonga and Virgen de La Paloma streets for the residents of Las Vírgenes, and the Argana Baja Sociocultural Center for the residents of El Cable and La Concha.
The objective of these sessions is to bring the content of the PGOUs closer to the citizens before the deadline for allegations on June 10th. "We want all residents to have the opportunity to know how the General Plan affects them, resolve their doubts and, above all, give their opinion and improve the document," explained Echedey Eugenio.
During the meeting, issues especially relevant to each area were addressed. In the case of the Camino de Güime, the reclassification of the land with houses built even before the current planning was communicated. These plots will become developable land, allowing their regularization and future provision of services through public initiative action units.
For their part, the residents of El Cable and La Concha showed their concern about the stormwater diversions and the accesses to the future "Cable-La Concha" urbanization, which is being processed by private developers. The City Council clarified the powers of the PGOUs in the matter and took note of some neighborhood observations that will be incorporated ex officio into the file.
At the end of each session, the residents were able to individually consult their doubts with the technical team, obtaining answers on specific cases that directly affect their properties.
Councilor Maciot Cabrera highlighted the importance of these meetings, stating that "we are demonstrating that urban planning can and should be participatory. This is a historic opportunity for the residents of Arrecife to stop feeling excluded from the decisions that affect their city."
Echedey Eugenio, for his part, stressed the value of citizen participation in this process and stressed that "the massive attendance at these first meetings shows that the people of Arrecife want to be heard. Our commitment is clear: maximum transparency and dialogue at all times."
The schedule of sessions will continue until June 10, touring all the neighborhoods of the municipality.
