Arrecife continues to receive, in the middle of the high cruise season, important ocean liners that are en route through this area of the North Atlantic. For this weekend, the capital of Lanzarote has scheduled the stopover of three luxury cruises, two of them recently built. The Iona, one of the largest ocean liners in the world, which entered service in 2021, will arrive this Sunday at 7 a.m. with more than 6,500 people. It has the capacity to accommodate 5,200 passengers on its 17 decks.
The Iona will dock first thing in the morning and continue its journey to Cádiz from 6 p.m. Powered by liquefied natural gas, the 'Iona' displaces 184,000 tons and has 17 decks.
The 'Iona', a ship of 344 meters in length and 54 in beam of the British P&O, travels to Lanzarote this new season with the reactivation of cruise tourism and allowing Arrecife to be the port of the Canary Islands that will grow the most in the arrival of tourism traveling on cruises, with an increase of more than 5%. In total, and throughout the season, 244 ships will pass through Arrecife.
This Saturday the luxurious World Navigator arrived
This Saturday the luxurious large expedition yacht, `World Navigator´, with capacity for 196 passengers and 117 crew members, remains docked at the Arrecife Cruise pier. This ship is the first time it has docked in Arrecife. This morning the captain of the ship offered a reception to the local authorities. Representing the Arrecife City Council was the second deputy mayor, Roberto Herbón.
The World Navigator, launched at the beginning of this decade, travels with a select group of passengers with high purchasing power. It has been making a route through several cities on the coast of Morocco, and this morning it has docked in Arrecife, the first Canary Island port near the African coast that has a control area in the passenger terminal. It will continue its route this afternoon to Gran Canaria. Upon disembarking, passengers were able to see the deployment of the stage for the celebration of Arrecife en Vivo in the dock area, which last night closed the 2023 edition in this scenario that is being premiered for the first time as a place for holding events on the Arrecife coastline.
For its part, the Celebrity Silhouette, a cruise ship traveling en route to Cádiz, will arrive tomorrow Sunday and will remain in the capital of Lanzarote until 7 p.m. The ship, with a tonnage of 122,400, is 349 meters long and has a capacity for 2,886 passengers.
On October 4, the mayor of the city, Yonathan de León, and the Councilor for Tourism and Commerce, Eli Merino, presented at the cruise pier the plan that the Arrecife City Council has launched to boost and relaunch the commercial and hotel area of the center of the capital of Lanzarote.
From the Arrecife City Council, through the Department of Commerce and Tourism, under the direction of the councilor Eli Merino, a program of commercial and tourist revitalization is being developed in the open commercial areas during weekends, and the days with a scheduled cruise stopover.
