“Arrecife breathes Christmas” that is the slogan of the program of events that the mayor of Arrecife, Astrid Pérez, presented this Friday, in a press conference in the José Ramírez Cerdá park next to the Traditional Nativity Scene, which on Friday afternoon, starting at 8:00 p.m. “will be filled with light, sound and movement.”
Also present at the event were the councilors of Tourism, Armando Santana, of Youth and Citizen Participation, Eli Merino, and of Festivities, Encarna Páez, since these Councils, together with the Culture area and the Mayor's Office, have coordinated for the first time to carry out an “extensive and varied program of events that reaches all the neighborhoods of Arrecife”, as stated by the mayor Astrid Pérez.
“The first thing I want to do is invite all the citizens of Arrecife to participate, come and enjoy the extensive program of events that we have planned this year in order to put a little illusion, color and light to a city like Arrecife, the third capital of the Canary Islands”, said the mayor Astrid Pérez.
The first capital city mayor recalled in her speech that last year Christmas could not be celebrated in full due to the health alert but “thanks fortunately to the percentage of vaccination we have reached, the protocols have been relaxed and we can enjoy a Christmas in the street, and in every corner of the capital and all its neighborhoods. There are activities for all ages in all the neighborhoods of Arrecife, with Christmas workshops and shows for both adults and children”.
There will be a Cavalcade of Kings and a great variety of events
As detailed by the City Council, among the highlights of this program there are several unmissable events such as “the Ranchos de Pascua in the surroundings of the Church of San Ginés, the Christmas market on the 16th in this same park, with the subsequent concert at 7:00 p.m.”. In addition, they also shell out other events such as “Christmas in the Port with Los Campesinos, the Lyrical Gala in the Teatro Cine Atlántida, the concerts of Parrandas and Folkloric Groups, the traditional San Silvestre Race on the 31st or already in 2022 the Great Cavalcade of Kings on January 5th”.
“This year we will be able to fully enjoy the Cavalcade of the Three Wise Men with its route along the Avenida Marítima and with the presence of the Kings on their camels and with the illusion of the children watching their majesties and the floats that will accompany the royal retinue pass by”, said Astrid Pérez to the media.
The Arrecife City Council wants the planned events to also be “dynamizers of the economy in our city and in its neighborhoods, that is why one more year we have made an effort to illuminate Christmas with more than 800,000 LED lights that are needed to wrap and give warmth to our shops and small and medium-sized businesses, as highlighted by the mayor Astrid Pérez.
