The Arrecife City Council has confirmed that the university students of the capital who are studying abroad have already had the aid granted by the City Council to cover travel expenses paid into their current accounts.

In total, 503 university students residing in Arrecife have received 350 euros in aid for their studies corresponding to the 2019/2020 academic year, which was affected from March of last year by the declaration of the alarm due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In this regard, it is recalled that the government group, led by the mayoress Ástrid Pérez, decided to increase the amount of these aids. Until 2019, the City Council had allocated an item of 170,000 euros to help families with university students who travel outside Lanzarote, while now, the Department of Education, under the direction of Saro González, has allocated 200,000 euros, "the largest amount in recent years in the City Council".

Arrecife finalizes the new call for the current course

The mayoress of Arrecife, Ástrid Pérez, has assured that her government group will continue to contribute with municipal resources so that families can continue to count on these aids, which allow them to cover the "high costs" that families have in expenses and travel to pursue higher education in the Canary Islands universities or in the Peninsula.

In this sense, the Councilor for Education, Saro González, has advanced that the Intervention Department has already registered the mandatory credit retention, and that her council is finalizing the details to send to the Official Bulletin of the Province the call for new aid for the current academic year 2020/2021, which will be published "in the next few days".
