Arrecife launches a service for the collection of abandoned dogs 24 hours a day

The City Council has also carried out works to improve the facilities of the Animal Protection Center

The Arrecife City Council now has a service for collecting abandoned dogs on public roads that operates 24 hours a day.

The Councilor for Health and head of the Arrecife Animal Protection Center, Saro González, has reported that the City Council has hired a specialized company to collect animals to reinforce municipal services in caring for abandoned pets.

According to the City Council, the operation will be established when the Local Police officers record the presence of an abandoned dog on a public road in the municipality, and an attempt is made to locate its owner using the identification chip that the dog must wear. If the animal's owner is not located, the Local Police will activate this collection service, requesting the presence of personnel from this company to remove and custody the dog until its transfer to the Arrecife Animal Protection Center.

In the event that the dog shows signs of damage, the contract signed by the City Council determines that the veterinary personnel of this firm will perform the first emergency care.

Improvements to the Arrecife Animal Welfare Center facilities

The City Council highlights that the provision of this new service, which will operate if required 24 hours a day, seven days a week, is in addition to other improvements made by the Department of Health to the facilities of the Animal Protection Center "to further adapt these public facilities" and promote "better animal welfare for the pets housed there."
